O Canada...

You know, sometimes I get damn tired of this country we live in. The hypocrisy... it hurts.
Don't get me wrong - I love my country. I believe to the depth of my very being - hell, I KNOW - that it's the greatest country on earth. I mean, it's absolutely obvious. We're peaceful, diplomatic and open (though our leaders aren't always). So much, in fact, that we create commissions to evaluate our ever-evolving culture, morphing and rebuilding itself constantly with every new life that enters our fair dominion.
But that's just the problem, isn't it? Actually, it's a lack thereof. We're too well off. We're too comfy. We don't have famines or droughts. We don't have genocide. We don't have civil unrest, mass repression or angry diplomats (well, maybe Quebec...). We don't have illegality spewing over our borders. Our power stays on during the colder months.
All this said, generally speaking, we are in the ideal spot to help the rest of the world, right? I mean, the economy's good, the infrastructure is stable, the people are chillin' all over the place...
NO!
Wrong!
Absolutely not!
Apparently, as opposed to making the rest of the world a better place - instead of making it awesome and peaceful (like us) - we need to spend our boundless resources making up, and subsequently correcting, more problems. Like Bouchard-Taylor, for instance. Now, I have nothing against the principle of reinforcing the common knowledge that back road Quebecers are blatantly racist, I just think we could be doing more. We made the assumption that Muslim women won't lift their veils to vote. We're scared of what will happen now that we have an American-like dollar (boohoo). OH NO! What are the possible causes of a 10% drop in the murder rate!? I think we need a reality check. Here are some things worth fighting for...
- Fighting injustice
- Destroying poverty and world hunger
- Keeping our planet habitable
- Keeping our planet alive with flora and fauna
- Promoting the arts
And we could take away from, say...
- Military
- Military
- Military
- Oh, and the PM's allocated allowance for foodstuffs. Really, Stephen...

But, I digress, I really would take any reason to whack the Government's plans, and its people. We won't get into that today, though, shall we?

In the end, Canada probably has an entire team of Navy S.E.A.L.s-like diplomats behind enemy lines in every conflict zone, everywhere, trying. Maybe we just need to push harder.
Maybe we need a real government.
